The Happy Pub
The Happy Pub is the nearest bar to my apartment selling 'craft' beers (I'll use this North American term as 'real' ale isn't much better). The Happy Pub sits along Strada Căderea Bastiliei, in Bucharest. It has a small yard at the front with tables. The bar stretches back 3 rooms and is very casual and popular in the evenings. Picture was taken at night with a phone so not great quality. It's a cheerful place with attentive bar staff. It's sister pub, the imaginatively named 'The Beers', is 200 m further on (but that's for a different post).
The tap menu varies quite a bit, the one for last Wednesday is attached. Navindra and I called in for a couple after work. I went for the Glarus English ale (from Slanchevo, Bulgaria) while Navindra opted for the Amistad Indian Passion (from the Voluntari district of Bucharest).
Despite their apparent attentiveness, the server brought me a Glarus Porter. Porter isn't my favourite however I tasted it before asking for the exchange. The English Ale was a sturdy beer, quite sweet and not that 'English'. Colour was pretty standard.
Navindra's Indian Passion beer was really excellent with a sharp, fruity taste. Sold in 0.33 litre, it was a very good drink. Certainly taste the passion fruit.
Sadly they didn't have any of the excellent Perfektum beers on tap or bottled - they tend to come and go. I'm including the bottled beer menu also for info.
I have tried many of the Konrad (Czech Republic) bottled beers, some with quite frightening alcoholic content (e.g. K20 @ 8%).
Prices are reasonable for craft beers here (16 RON is approx. GBP 3.05).
The Happy Pub has several really good draft beers, well worth a visit.
Postscript: Early 2019, the Happy Pub ceased trading in its location, and is now amalgamated with The Beers, a couple of hundred metres down the road. In mid 2019, it became the Silence Pub - with no craft/interesting beers for sale at all. As a consequence, last time I walked past, it was very silent!
